~~Job Summary: This position works directly with an assigned caseload to assess individuals' interests, preferences, strengths, and support needs, and then contacts local businesses to develop employment opportunities that match with the persons’ career goals. This position will continue supporting individuals through training after job placement.

Specific Elements of the Job
Career Planning/Assessment
1. In conjunction with the consumer, their family, applicable community members, applicable school or work personnel, the job developer conducts a comprehensive intake of the interests, skills, strengths, and support needs for all persons assigned using supplied Capabilities, Inc. documents, utilizing funding source supplied information and vocation goal. Documents this accurately on the Consumer Profile and other forms provided for intake.
2. Keep consumer choice of utmost importance.
3. Keeps owner(s) apprised of consumer’s case.
4. Informs owner(s) of any contact with funding source representatives.
5. As appropriate, assists consumers with application completion and resume development using supplied documents as well as applications obtained from potential job site. If application skills are not developed and will not help consumer acquire job, developer or family members should fill out said applications after consultation with consumer.
6. May provide transportation to the consumer to and from the work site.
7. Develop a specific plan for development for each consumer, detailing this in the Consumer Profile and updating this as needed in the Job Developer Monthly Narrative Reports.
8. Is responsible for maintenance of acceptable standards related to CARF Accreditation, U.S. Department of Labor (Federal Wage and Hour Division) and other regulatory standards as appropriate.
Employment Development
1. Established relationships with community employers and procures quality employment opportunities for persons assigned.
2. Conducts job site surveys and assesses compatibility to assure good job matching.
3. Provides education and consultation to local employers. Make recommendations to businesses in regard to job restructuring, adaptation, and job carving.
4. Coordinates all job development activities with other job developers and owner(s).
5. Participates in local groups that support job development efforts.
6. Unless otherwise directed, works to find direct hiring situation for consumer.
7. Consults with and keeps owner(s) apprised of consumers’ case.
8. Consults owner(s) before initialing contact with funding source counselor unless otherwise directed.
Advocacy
1. Assures that efforts are undertaken to implement the individual choices and preferences of each person assigned.
2. Communicates and interacts with all significant people in the lives of consumer to ensure successful employment.
3. Coordinates necessary natural supports within and outside the work environment with community resources.
Job Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation, social work, special education, public relations or closely related discipline. Education can be substituted for a high school diploma and successful related work experience at the discretion of the owner(s).
2. Demonstration of excellent oral skills; effective written skills and documentation, and strong teamwork skills.
3. Demonstration of above average computer skills with Microsoft Word and Outlook.
4. Effective transportation to work sites/employers and a valid driver’s license with less than 2 points. Reasonable unpaid commute of travel time and mileage will be documented with each employee equivalent to at least the amount of mileage and time needed to get from their home to the Capabilities office to which they are assigned.
5. Effective means of communication between employee and staff.
6. Willingness to work flexible, varying hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
7. Knowledge of two or more of the follow is preferred: supported employment, marketing, job development, public relations, community training with individuals with severe disabilities or developing community connections.
8. Cheerful, positive person who does their job with enthusiasm and exhibits this to their consumer, perspective employers, and owner(s). Career Consultants set the example for consumers and their employers.
9. Physical ability to stand for up to 2 hours at a time, physical ability to complete work day that includes visiting employers in a 30+ mile radius as well as getting in and out of vehicle multiple times during the shift.
